CDR/COR - Committee of the Regions of the EU
After its setting up in March 1994, the COR established a library, that forms one entity together within the Common Services of the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.
This library provides specialised information to COR members and staff for the elaboration of opinions, resolutions and studies.
The COR had initially five areas of compulsory consultation (economic and social cohesion; trans-European networks in the fields of transport, telecommunications and energy; public health; education and youth; culture) which have been enlarged after the entry into force of the Treaty of Amsterdam (employment, social policy, environment, vocational training, transport).
When creating the COR, the Maastricht Treaty established by its Protocol 16 a common administrative structure for both the EESC and the COR. The library -being part of these common services-, has two different collections in order to provide correct and up-to-date information to members and staff of each Committee.
The general purposes of the COR Library are: acquisition of periodicals and books, budget and financial control, cataloguing and indexing, bibliographic information, research assistance, database exploitation.
